The Stonewall-Rockwood Fire Department is welcoming a new addition.
The department recently purchased a new Florida-manufactured E-One fire truck which arrived at its fire hall in Stonewall on Nov. 12.
The new vehicle will replace one of the department’s other trucks, which had been in service since 1987. Due to national standards for fire equipment, the truck needed to be replaced.
The new truck cost $608,000 with both the Town of Stonewall and the RM of Rockwood contributing $304,000 each towards the purchase.
“(Its) capabilities are almost the same (as the old truck),” Stonewall-Rockwood fire chief and Rockwood councillor Curtis McClintock wrote in an email to The Stonewall Argus and Teulon Times. “Its pumping capability is more. It carries more personnel, having more firefighters on scene earlier in an emergency.”
Unlike the Teulon-Rockwood Fire Department which recently moved from its old location on Main Street to its new location just north of Provincial Road 415, McClintock said that there are currently no plans for the SRFD to move into a new facility.
“At present, it meets the needs of our department,” he added.
