After a good start to their season, the Stonewall Jets have since fallen into a slump and have dropped below .500 in the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League standings.

Jared Bucci, Cole Zadro and Eric Lecuyer each had three points as the Fort Garry/Fort Rouge Twins defeated the Jets 3-1 at Century Arena in Winnipeg on Oct. 20. With the loss, Stonewall dropped their third straight game and sit at 3-4-0 for six points, fifth in the 10-team circuit.

The Twins have not lost a game in regulation so far this season and sit on top of the standings with a 5-0-2 record and 12 points.

Bucci scored at 5:34 of the first period to give Fort Garry/Fort Rouge an early lead, but Stonewall replied on a goal by Shaydon Mousseau at 9:53. Despite a two-minute five-on-three power play for the Jets at 11:23, they were unable to capitalize.

Zadro found the back of the net for the Twins at 10:05 of the middle frame for a 2-1 lead.

Bucci added his second of the game for Fort Garry/Fort Rouge at 9:33 of the third period.

Zak Bannatyne held his own in the Twins’ net, stopping 41 shots for the win. Curtis Beck made 33 saves for Stonewall in the loss.

Victorias 4  Jets 2

Parker Janz scored twice for the St. Vital Victorias in a 4-2 win over the Jets at the Veterans Memorial Sports Complex on Oct. 18.

The game took a bit of an ugly turn in the first period as the Vics’ Tyson Last checked a Stonewall player from behind and was assessed a game misconduct penalty. He later fought the Jets’ Emmitt Farebrother and both were assessed major and game misconduct penalties for the scrap.

Jordan Pritchard and Cedric Chenier both scored in the first period for St. Vital.

Carson Ouellette scored both a power play goal and a shorthanded marker for Stonewall.

Mason Swerdyliak made 31 saves for the Vics, while Adam Swan stopped 20 shots for the Jets in the loss.

The Jets will take on the winless River East Royal Knights at the VMSC on Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. before facing the Transcona Railer Express at Ed Golding Arena in Winnipeg on Oct. 27 at 2 p.m.
